Assessments

An in-depth, specialized assessment is necessary when a routine eye examination does not effectively diagnose vision problems or identify visual system deficits.Advanced Vision Therapy Center offers three types of assessments, each tailored to specific areas of visual function.

Binocular Vision Assessment

This is an assessment of eye teaming and visual perceptual abilities. Individuals who benefit from a binocular vision assessment often complain of double vision, eyestrain, visual fatigue, or difficulties in school (such as reading, copying from the board, or inconsistent performance). Anyone who has been diagnosed with strabismus (eye turn or wandering eye) or amblyopia (lazy eye) should have a binocular vision assessment.

Athlete Vision Assessment

This is an assessment for athletes of all ability level who wish to maximize visual performance. Our team will evaluate your visual abilities as they relate to your athletic demands. For this reason, an athlete vision assessment for a soccer player will look very different than the assessment for a baseball player. Depending on the level of competition the assessment can be position-specific, meaning the assessment for a center fielder will differ from that of the pitcher.

Neuro-Optometric Assessment

This is an assessment that investigates the visual effects of an acquired brain injury. Traumatic brain injury (including concussions), ischemic events (such as a stroke), and inflammation of the brain are all considered to be forms of acquired brain injury and as such can affect your vision. During our neuro-optometric assessment, we will determine how your vision, visual skills, and visual perceptual abilities have been affected. More importantly, we will determine how to help you improve.
